Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah on the Disney Wish
When planning a Disney Cruise, your stateroom becomes your home base—and on the Disney Wish, the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah is thoughtfully designed with families in mind. We stayed in room 8666, located in the aft on the starboard side of the ship, and it was a wonderful mix of comfort, function, and Disney-style details.
One extra perk of being on the starboard side was that when we docked at Castaway Cay, we could see the island from our balcony as soon as we arrived. Waking up to that view and watching the ship pull in was absolutely beautiful and such a memorable moment.
Room Theme & Verandah Details
As soon as we walked into our stateroom, we were delighted to see that we had a Princess and the Frog–themed room. There is a large painting behind the headboard area of the bed, along with additional artwork near the couch, all tying into the theme.
One thing I love about the Disney Wish is the variety of room themes. The ship features staterooms inspired by Cinderella, Frozen, Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Moana, and Tangled. I have a chart that shows all the room themes across Disney Cruise Line, and based on that, it appears the room connecting to ours was Sleeping Beauty. That means if you cruise with friends or family and book connecting staterooms, each room can have a different theme—how fun is that!
Our room included a verandah (Disney’s word for a balcony). One fun thing to know is that verandahs can also connect. There is a divider between balconies, and if you ask your stateroom attendant, they can remove a portion of it so you can share one large balcony when traveling with a larger party.
Room Layout & Sleeping Arrangements
Our Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah comfortably sleeps up to four guests. The layout includes:
A queen-size bed that sleeps two adults
A sofa that converts into a single bed
A single pull-down bed from the ceiling
As a mom of one boy and one girl, I absolutely loved this setup. My kids have never wanted to share a bed, and this arrangement allowed each of them to have their own space—something that made bedtime much smoother for everyone.
At approximately 284 square feet, these rooms are smaller than a traditional hotel room, but they are incredibly well organized. During the day, the sofa gives you plenty of room to move around. In the evening, your stateroom attendant transforms the room into “night mode” while you’re at dinner or the shows, and then returns it to “day mode” each morning. Disney truly maximizes every inch of space.
One of the Most Comfortable Beds at Sea
Let’s talk about the bed—because it deserves its own section. The queen-size bed was by far one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on while on vacation. In fact, someone in our cruise Facebook group was asking for the make and model because they wanted to buy one for their home. Many of us chimed in to agree—it really was that good.
Another thoughtful detail: the bed is raised high enough that all of your suitcases fit underneath, keeping the room uncluttered. It’s one of those small things Disney does that just makes sense.
The Family-Friendly Split Bathroom
One of Disney Cruise Line’s best features—especially for families—is the split bathroom, and most staterooms on the Wish include it. One bathroom has a sink and toilet, while the other has a sink and shower/tub combination. This setup makes it so much easier for families to get ready in the morning or before dinner.
Unlike many other cruise lines that only offer a small shower, Disney includes a bathtub, which is a huge win for families with younger children. There’s also a clothesline that stretches across the tub, perfect for drying swimsuits after a day at the beach or pool deck.
Both bathrooms include small shelves to help keep toiletries organized, and Disney provides pump soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I especially love the body wash—the scent is now permanently associated with vacation and joy for me. And I appreciate not having to pack pump soap and worry about it spilling in my luggage on the way home.
Storage & Organization
The stateroom includes:
Two hanging areas in the closet
Shelving between the hanging sections
Narrow shelves throughout the room
A desk area with a mirror
A beverage cooler
The slim shelves made it easy to keep surfaces clean and organized. There was plenty of hanging space for all four of us.
The one thing I felt this room could use was dresser drawers. On previous cruises (like on the Disney Magic), we had a dresser that held folded clothes. The Wish does not include drawers. We used packing cubes and placed them on the closet shelves, which worked well—but I personally would have preferred drawers to keep clothes more contained and easier to find.
If you’re sailing on the Wish, I highly recommend packing cubes for anything you won’t be hanging up—they will make your life much easier.
Entertainment & In-Room Technology
The stateroom includes one large flat-screen TV that faces the queen-size bed and is also easy to see from the couch during the day. At night, a curtain can be pulled to divide the room for privacy, which also means the kids can’t watch TV once it’s closed—an unexpected but appreciated bonus.
Disney offers a wide selection of shows and movies available directly on the stateroom TV. If you’re connected to the ship’s free onboard Wi-Fi on your phone or tablet, you can also watch the stateroom TV content from your own device. While it doesn’t include everything available on Disney+ or Netflix, there is still plenty to enjoy.
Each morning, there’s a show featuring the cruise director sharing what’s happening around the ship that day. I loved being able to watch it from my phone with my headphones on without disturbing the rest of the room.
Modern Conveniences & Technology
The Disney Wish debuted in 2022, and you can really tell when it comes to technology. Unlike some of the older ships, the Wish has plenty of USB outlets, which is essential for modern families.
We had no trouble charging:
4 MagicBand+
4 iPhones
3 Apple Watches
2 computers
We did bring a USB adapter that allowed multiple MagicBands to charge from one outlet, and I highly recommend doing the same if you’re traveling with lots of devices.
Magnetic Walls & Personal Touches
Just like other Disney Cruise Line ships, the walls are magnetic. We brought magnetic hooks and decorations, which we used to hang baseball hats, Mickey ears, and a few Disney Christmas decorations. On previous cruises, we used them for lanyards—but this time, we didn’t need them.
MagicBand+ vs. Key to the World Card
Everyone receives a Key to the World card, which acts as your room key, onboard charge card, and identification when leaving and reboarding the ship.
However, we chose to upgrade to MagicBand+, and I’m so glad we did. MagicBand+ works throughout the cruise and is much more convenient than wearing a lanyard around your neck. I loved having my room key on my wrist—especially when heading to the pool deck, grabbing a snack, or taking a walk, when I didn’t want to carry a purse or bag.
You will still need your Key to the World card when leaving the ship, but for everyday onboard life, MagicBand+ made things so easy. If you plan to cruise with Disney again or visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland, I highly recommend the upgrade.
Final Thoughts
The Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on the Disney Wish is a fantastic option for families. It’s thoughtfully designed, extremely comfortable, and filled with little details that make cruising with kids easier and more enjoyable. While I would love to see dresser drawers added in the future, the overall layout, comfort, and functionality more than made up for it.
If you’re considering sailing on the Disney Wish and wondering which stateroom category is right for your family, this is one I would happily book again.Write Here...
