Disney Value Resorts: Which One Is Right for Your Family?

So, you’ve decided you want to stay right in the middle of the magic at Walt Disney World. Now comes the fun part… and maybe a little bit of decision-making stress. 😂

Disney has four resort categories: Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and the Campgrounds. Today, we’re starting at the Value level because these resorts are a great option for families who want the Disney experience without spending as much on their hotel.

And trust me, choosing a Disney resort can be harder than it sounds!

I have a personal goal of staying at every Walt Disney World Resort. I’ve stayed at more than 20 resorts so far, and while I absolutely have my favorites, I also know that the “best” Disney resort really depends on what you and your family value most.

So let’s break down the Value Resorts!

What Is a Disney Value Resort?

Value Resorts are Disney’s most budget-friendly resort category.

But “Value” does not mean you’re giving up the Disney magic.

These resorts are colorful, fun, family-friendly, and heavily themed. They are designed to make you feel like you’ve stepped into a larger-than-life Disney story from the moment you arrive.

You’ll find Disney transportation to the theme parks, Disney theming throughout the resort, pools, recreation, quick-service dining, and all those little Disney touches that make staying on property special.

For many families, a Value Resort is the perfect choice because they plan to spend most of their vacation exploring the parks anyway.

Why spend a huge portion of your vacation budget on a room if you’re only going to be there to sleep, shower, swim, and recharge?

But there are five Value Resorts, and they definitely aren't all the same.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

If your family loves Disney movies, this one is hard to beat.

Disney’s All-Star Movies is filled with larger-than-life movie theming, including sections inspired by movies such as Toy Story, Fantasia, 101 Dalmatians, and other Disney favorites.

And when I say larger-than-life, I mean it!

You’ll find giant Disney characters and movie icons throughout the resort. It really feels like you’ve walked into a Disney movie set.

This is also one of the resorts that people often think of when they picture the classic Disney Value Resort experience.

Who is it good for?

Families who love Disney movies, younger kids who will enjoy the larger-than-life theming, and anyone looking for that classic Disney-on-a-budget experience. Perfect for a family of 4.

 

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

If your family lives and breathes sports, this might be your Value Resort.

All-Star Sports is filled with giant sports-themed decorations, making it feel like you’ve walked into a mini sports complex.

You’ll find themes like football, baseball, basketball, tennis, and more.

It’s energetic, colorful, and definitely has personality.

And here's something I always remind people: you don't have to be a sports family to enjoy All-Star Sports.

Sometimes the best resort choice comes down to price, availability, or simply the atmosphere you enjoy.

 

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Now we’re moving to one of my favorites in the Value category: Pop Century.

Pop Century celebrates the pop culture of different decades, from the 1950s through the 1990s.

Think giant yo-yos, Rubik’s Cubes, bowling pins, computers, and other nostalgic icons.

It’s colorful, fun, and has a completely different feel from the All-Star Resorts.

But one of the biggest reasons I recommend looking closely at Pop Century is transportation.

Pop Century has access to the Disney Skyliner, which gives you another way to get to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

And honestly, having the Skyliner as an option can be a BIG deal for some families.

If you have little ones who love transportation as much as they love the parks, the Skyliner can be an attraction all by itself!

 

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

And then we have Art of Animation, which might just be one of the most immersive Value Resorts on Disney property.

If you have kids who love The Little Mermaid, Cars, The Lion King, or Finding Nemo, this resort is going to be pretty exciting.

The resort is divided into different themed sections, and the theming is incredibly detailed.

And just like Pop Century, Art of Animation has access to the Skyliner.

Another big advantage is the availability of Family Suites in several sections of the resort.

That can be a game changer for families who need more space but still want to stay within the Value Resort category.

 

What Do All the Value Resorts Have in Common?

While each resort has its own personality, there are some things you can expect from the Value category.

Disney theming

If you want Disney magic from the moment you wake up until you head back to your room at night, you're definitely getting that here.

Pools

The Value Resorts have themed pools that fit the personality of the resort. Even though the pools are great,  they do not have water slides.

And don't forget—Disney resort pools can be a BIG part of the vacation, especially when you're traveling with kids.

Quick-service dining

Value Resorts have quick-service dining locations where you can grab breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks without needing a reservation.

This can be really convenient when you have a busy park day.

Disney transportation

You’ll have complimentary transportation to the Disney theme parks and other Disney destinations.

Most Value Resorts rely heavily on buses, while Pop Century and Art of Animation also have Skyliner access.

 

Are Value Resorts Right for a Family of Five?

This is one of the questions I get a lot.

And the answer is: sometimes!

Some Value Resort room options can accommodate families of five, particularly the Family Suites at All-Star Music and Art of Animation.

However, room occupancy and sleeping arrangements vary by room type, so this is something I always want to look at carefully before recommending a resort to a family.

And that's one of the reasons I don't think choosing a Disney resort should simply be about finding the cheapest room.

 

We need to look at who is traveling, how many people are in the room, what kind of sleeping arrangements you need, transportation preferences, and how you plan to spend your vacation.

Things to Think About Before Choosing a Value Resort

Before you click that “book” button, ask yourself a few questions.

How much time will we actually spend at the resort?

If your family plans to rope drop the parks, stay until fireworks, and collapse into bed, you may not need to spend more for a Deluxe Resort.

Do we need more space?

If you’re traveling with a larger family, a Family Suite may be worth the extra cost.

Is transportation important to us?

If you love the idea of riding the Skyliner, Pop Century and Art of Animation should definitely be on your list.

Does the theming matter to our family?

Some kids will walk into a giant Cars section at Art of Animation and think they have arrived in heaven. 😂

Other families may care much more about transportation or room configuration.

There really isn't one right answer.

So Which Disney Value Resort Should You Choose?

Here's my quick breakdown:

🎬 All-Star Movies: Great for Disney movie lovers and families who want classic larger-than-life Disney theming.

🎵 All-Star Music: A great option for families who need a little more room with the Family Suites.

⚾ All-Star Sports: Perfect for sports fans or families looking for a fun, energetic atmosphere.

📺 Pop Century: Great for families who love nostalgia and want Skyliner access.

🎨 Art of Animation: Fantastic for families who want incredibly immersive Disney theming, Family Suites, and Skyliner access.

My Biggest Disney Resort Tip

Don't automatically choose a resort because it's the cheapest.

And don't assume the most expensive resort is automatically the best one either.

The right Disney resort is the one that fits your family, your budget, and the kind of vacation you want to have.

Maybe you're a family of four who plans to spend every waking minute in the parks. A Value Resort could be perfect.

Maybe you have five people and need a Family Suite.

Maybe your kids are obsessed with Cars.

Maybe you just really want to ride the Skyliner every morning.

Those little details can completely change which resort I would recommend.
